Business Intelligence Consulting

Before anyone builds a dashboard, someone has to decide what the business is measuring — and why. That's the work we do first.

Most companies don't have a reporting problem. They have a definition problem. Finance calculates revenue one way, sales another, and operations has a third number in a spreadsheet nobody wants to open in front of the board. Dashboards built on top of that disagreement just publish the confusion faster.

Our BI consulting engagements start with interviews, not tools. We sit with the people who make decisions, find out which questions they ask every week, and trace each answer back to the system where the data actually lives. What comes out is a short, agreed KPI dictionary, an honest assessment of what your current stack can and can't support, and a sequenced roadmap that puts the highest-value reporting first.

You end up with a plan a CFO can approve: what gets built, in what order, what it costs, and what changes in the business when each piece lands.

Problems this solves

What we usually walk into

  • Two departments present different numbers for the same metric in the same meeting.
  • Reporting exists, but nobody can say which report is authoritative.
  • A BI tool was purchased and is now used as an expensive chart exporter.
  • Leadership wants analytics but has no way to prioritize a two-year wish list.

Implementation process

How the engagement runs

  1. 01

    Stakeholder interviews

Two weeks of structured conversations with finance, ops, sales, and the executive team to capture the decisions being made and the data behind them.

  2. 02

    Current-state audit

We inventory every report, spreadsheet, and data source in use, and document where the numbers diverge.

  3. 03

    KPI dictionary

One page per metric: definition, formula, owner, source system, refresh cadence. Signed off by the people who use it.

  4. 04

    Architecture recommendation

A right-sized target state — sometimes that's Fabric and a warehouse, sometimes it's Power BI on top of what you already own.

  5. 05

    Sequenced roadmap

Phased delivery plan with effort, cost, and the business outcome attached to each phase.

Challenge

Board packs took eleven days to assemble each month and three departments reported utilization differently, so the partners argued about the numbers instead of the business.

Solution

A four-week advisory engagement produced a signed KPI dictionary, retired 38 redundant reports, and defined a Power BI semantic model as the single source of truth for utilization and realization.

Result

Board pack assembly dropped from eleven days to two, and the partner group now reviews one utilization figure everyone agrees on.

FAQs

Questions we get asked

Do we need to replace our BI tool to work with you?
Usually not. In most audits the existing licence is fine and the problem is modeling and governance. We'll tell you plainly if a change is warranted.
How long does a consulting engagement take?
Three to six weeks depending on how many stakeholder groups and source systems are involved.
Can you also build what you recommend?
Yes. Roughly three quarters of our advisory clients continue into a build engagement, but the roadmap is written so any competent team could execute it.
What if leadership disagrees on definitions?
That's the normal starting point. The workshop is designed to force those disagreements into the open and resolve them on the record.
