Not every company needs a BI platform. Sometimes the right answer is an Excel workbook that refreshes itself and never breaks.

Excel gets dismissed too quickly. For a lot of finance and operations teams it's the tool everyone already knows, the data volumes are modest, and the real problem isn't the software — it's that the workbook is held together by manual copy-paste and one person's memory.

We rebuild those workbooks properly. Power Query handles the imports and cleaning, the data model sits on hidden sheets or in the workbook data model, and the front sheet is a clean dashboard with slicers. Open the file, hit refresh, and it's current. No macros nobody understands, unless a macro is genuinely the right tool.

When a workbook has outgrown Excel, we say so — and the Power Query work we've done transfers directly into Power BI later.

Questions we get asked

Will this still work if we move to Power BI later?
Yes. The Power Query steps and the data model port across almost unchanged, which is why we build this way.
Do you use macros?
Only when there's no modern alternative. Power Query and Office Scripts are easier to maintain and don't trip security policies.
Can it pull from our accounting system?
If it has an API, an ODBC driver, or a scheduled export, yes. QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, and most ERPs are straightforward.
How big can the data get before Excel struggles?
The workbook data model handles several million rows comfortably. Past that we'd recommend moving the storage layer out.
